What was once a lengthy monthly chore has been simplified into a task that can be accomplished with a few clicks of a mouse.

Most banks allow customers to pay bills from large, stable debtors such as credit cards companies, utilities, or nationwide retailers directly from their bank account. That service is now available to Medicare recipients.

The Department of Health and Human Services announced anyone enrolled in Medicare can take full advantage of this convenience to pay their premiums online. The easiest way to enroll is to contact your bank, or go into a local branch where they will require the following information:

  • Amount to be paid (your Medicare premium)
  • Account number (Medicare number without the dashes)
  • Biller Name (CMS Medicare Insurance)
  • Biller Address

It is important to remember that while there is no fee charged for paying Medicare online, your bank may charge a fee to pay any bill online.


Equally important, is updating the payment amount every January when premiums change.

No bank will know to do this unless you tell them, and without doing so, the wrong amount will be sent which could lead to an interruption of your coverage.
